Cradle hold – The baby lies across your chest with their head resting in the bend of your arm.

  • Hold your baby across your chest with their tummy facing your body.

  • Rest the baby’s head gently in the bend of your arm on the same side as the breast you are using.

  • Support the baby’s back and bottom with your forearm and hand.

  • Make sure the baby’s ear, shoulder, and hip are in a straight line.

  • Bring the baby to your breast, not the breast to the baby.

  • The baby’s nose should be near your nipple before latching.

  • Keep the baby’s head slightly tilted back for easy swallowing.

  • Ensure the baby’s mouth covers most of the areola, not just the nipple.

  • Watch for slow, deep sucking and swallowing sounds.

  • Adjust pillows or your arm position to stay comfortable and relaxed.
