Cradle hold – The baby lies across your chest with their head resting in the bend of your arm.
-
Hold your baby across your chest with their tummy facing your body.
-
Rest the baby’s head gently in the bend of your arm on the same side as the breast you are using.
-
Support the baby’s back and bottom with your forearm and hand.
-
Make sure the baby’s ear, shoulder, and hip are in a straight line.
-
Bring the baby to your breast, not the breast to the baby.
-
The baby’s nose should be near your nipple before latching.
-
Keep the baby’s head slightly tilted back for easy swallowing.
-
Ensure the baby’s mouth covers most of the areola, not just the nipple.
-
Watch for slow, deep sucking and swallowing sounds.
-
Adjust pillows or your arm position to stay comfortable and relaxed.
